However, we also understand that getting out here to be part of Ireland's original all beach half marathon & 10k event is a big undertaking especially for those travelling long distances. However, every year we have approximately 400 participants who make the journey to be part of The Brandon Bay half marathon & 10k event. So, if you are contemplating the journey, here is some information about what is happening around our event that may help you make your decision.

So, what exactly is the Brandon Bay half marathon & 10k event and what makes it different? What is it that attracts hundreds of runners annually to the beautiful beach around Brandon Bay from all parts of the globe? Well, the reasons are many....
The uniqueness! If it's a race on tarmac you like, then this is not for you! Races on tarmac are dime a dozen with hundreds taking place daily in every town, village & city around the globe. With the Brandon Bay event you leave the tarmac at the entrance to the beach and won't see it again until you return to your car afterwards! (Even the car park is grass!) This race sees runners complete both distances entirely on the wide open, flat beach that wraps around the bay, surrounded by the majestic Sliabh Mish mountains and under the watchful eye of Mt Brandon itself. The course is laid out in an 'out and back' style with runners starting & finishing at the same point - another feature that makes the event a little different. If it's a run on the Wild Atlantic Way you fancy, then look no further! The scenery! As mentioned, this is not your run of the mill race. Set entirely on the golden sands of Brandon Bay runners are flanked on one side by the mighty Atlantic and on the other by the mountains of the Slaibh Mish range and half marathon runners will be virtually at the foot of Mt Brandon as they turn and head for the finish line. Set entirely on the Wild Atlantic Way, this is one beach run that will take your breath away, and not just because you are running! The event! As the Brandon Bay half marathon & 10k takes place on Saturday 11th July 2020, it will coincide with the fantastic Castlegregory Summer Festival. This annual festival includes fun events for all the family from hikes, walks (on the beach obviously!), music, discos and much much more. So, as we say, come for the run - stay for the fun. The free yoga! Since 2019 we have added in free yoga on the beach as part of The Brandon Bay half marathon & 10k event! This was a huge hit as spectators & participants alike got to stretch & channel their inner Usain Bolt thanks to some beautiful scenery and brilliant guidance from Carol. |
